A New Musical

Alexsei’s Quest was born out of a collaboration event sponsored by CreateTheatre, where George pitched Jamie the idea of writing something about Alexsei Navalny, the Russian dissident that was found dead in a remote Russian prison in February 2024. After several false starts, they decided on the current story line which has us meeting Alexsei when he arrives in the afterlife, where he is greeted by an endless galaxy of stars. He believes he is in heaven.
But heaven it isn't, as he quickly finds out when his "guides" present him with his Quest - to find out why it's been so hard for Freedom and Democracy to find a home in Russia - and then try to sabotage his every effort to complete it. The music helps to tell the story as it weaves together inspiration from great Russan composers and iconic Russian folk melodies, all beautifully wrought to make for a deeply satisfying emotional journey.
This unusual musical is a story that's never been told. Its first reading at the Manhattan Theatre Club Studios in NYC in November, 2024, was received with great enthusiasm. Building on that enthusiasm, George and Jamie spent much of 2025 developing the work into something even greater. By May, 2025, a revised version of the musical went up as part of CreateTheatre’s New Works Festival, where it won a pair of awards. Professional demos of all the songs were also recorded at the renowned Milliron Studios.
In October of 2025 a cabaret performance of Alexsei's Quest took place at the historic cabaret venue Don't Tell Mama. Called "beautifully wrought," "soaring," and "flawless" by Arts Politico, enough interest has now been generated by this bold, captivating and timely work that discussions of a full production run in either New York or London are now in the works.
Alexsei’s Quest operates as a non-profit under Fractured Atlas, allowing for fundraising to support further development; donations are tax-deductible. Future plans include seeking like-minded producers who realizes the timeliness of the piece, the beauty of the music, and the integrity of the script.
